The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to ban the multi-billion rupee Indian Premier League because of alleged spot-fixing by some players but said the cricket board's lackadaisical approach in dealing with errant players and irregularities had left the gentleman's game ridden with controversies.

The court was hearing an ill-prepared public interest litigation by Lucknow-based Sudarsha Avasthi, which had little data and research to back his prayer to ban IPL matches and order probe by a special investigation team (SIT).
