A school dropout, Gurunath tried to build career in Srinivasan shadow

His last tweet on May 18 begins with a comment on the dodgy weather, "Cloudy day in Bangalore. Hope we get a full game..." Days later, the owner of the most successful IPL franchise and son-in-law of BCCI chief N Srinivasan has landed at the centre of a brewing storm over irregularities in cricket.

Known to be reticent and superstitious, Gurunath Meiyappan, 35, is from a clan that ran one of south India's most successful film studios -- AVM Productions -- although he was not part of the branch which controlled much of the business. Gurunath's claim to fame rests largely on his association with the India Cements group through marriage.
