The night when S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila were being arrested, I was speaking to a senior BCCI official and talking about L Sivaramakrishnan’s election to the ICC’s Cricket Committee. To be more specific, the discussion was about whether the BCCI rigged the elections in any way.

His reply was stunning: “The BCCI ‘persuades’ other Boards. And doesn’t that happen in every election. Do parties not persuade independents to join their cause – do they not use dubious means to do that? So is there anything wrong with what the BCCI did? You tell me…”

So, to put it metaphorically, the BCCI fixes the game outside the field.
