Star’s Rs 60-crore deal is being seen as an attempt to ambush Sony, who pay Rs 900 crore a year for broadcast rights.
Star India’s recent deal as official partner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has created a storm in broadcast circles.
More specifically, it has left Sony Entertainment Television (SET) fuming. Having been the official broadcaster of the IPL, SET, now known as Multi Screen Media (MSM), is upset with the officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and IPL that a rival channel has been taken on board.
